25th Annual Golf Tourney

The morning dawned bright, and the weather held out for a lovely day at the Golden Eagle course in Irvington, VA. This was the 25th year for the Jacob’s Ladder Golf Tourney, and the turnout was awesome. After a shotgun start at 12 noon, 11 teams hit the links to support the Climbers of Jacob’s Ladder. The final numbers are not yet in, but this years tourney is shaping up to be one of the best in recent years.

Several new friends joined us this year for the first time, and we appreciate each and every one who came in support of the program. One special golfer has been to 23 of the last 25 tourneys and has competed each time! It is through the generosity of these golfers that Jacob’s Ladder is able to send and support the Climbers at the summer enrichment camp, held this year at Christchurch School in Christchurch, VA.We are excited to return to this location where our founder and Executive Director Emeritus, Aubrey Hall, envisioned and began this life-changing program 27 years ago. Over 60 Climbers will join us in June for four weeks of learning, outdoor activities, and enrichment. This summer, we also welcome to the camp our new executive director, Sue Albaugh, who is no stranger to Jacob’s Ladder. She has worked for for a number of years as a gifted resource teacher, referring several students to JL, and brings to the program both her love for education and her expertise in working with gifted children.

We are also excited to announce that Palmer Castrodale will fill a new part-time position of High School Advocate. Palmer will mentor alumni of the program during their high school years and will assist them with college counseling, completing admissions forms, or figuring out what is next in their lives.
